In the past two weeks, I have experienced quite a roller-coaster journey. I was part of the organising committee for my set, SGS’06, celebrating our 20th anniversary; I attended this year’s Vanguard Economic Discourse; and I unfortunately missed the Award Night due to my youngest child’s teething experience. All of these activities took a toll on me.
However, the Female Freelancers Network, FFN webinar, featuring Mrs Ann Chukwuka Godwin served as a tonic to revitalise and rejuvenate me. My immediate younger sister, Dr Chioma Esther Uwandu-Mordi who is doing great work with the African Women Support Network and also attended the session, shared some insightful thoughts with me afterwards. She emphasised the importance of giving ourselves credit while striving for clarity of purpose and fulfilling our mandates on earth.
She remarked, “Enyia, there are events you will host where it will feel like the guest is speaking directly to you.” That was exactly how I felt during the webinar titled “Balance or Compromise? Career – Marriage – Calling,” and many other women who attended felt the same way.
As I told someone, we will share the valuable lessons and insights we gained from the webinar. But let us also reflect on these points, as the Holy Book suggests.
Here are some quotes from Mrs Godwin:
- “Pay the price to get the prize.”
- “Without financial stability, marriage becomes less enjoyable and more stressful.”
- “Be intentional about your growth; don’t be careless with your life.”
To the men who attended the webinar: kudos to you for striving to become the best versions of yourselves.
